Source: Stonetree vineyard (Wahluke Slope) and Coyote Canyon vineyard (Horse Heaven Hills)
Harvest: Just under six tons of Primitivo grapes from Stonetree vineyard were hand-picked on
September 20. Two days later, almost four tons of Primitivo grapes from Coyote Canyon vineyard were
handpicked on September 22. Following prompt delivery to the winery, the fruit was sorted by hand,
de-stemmed, and placed into open top fermenters.
Fermentation: After a passive soak the grapes were allowed to ferment with native yeast. The resulting
caps were punched down by hand on an as needed basis (usually twice/day) until fermentation
proceeded to dryness. On October 10, free run wine from both vineyard sources was placed into barrels
and the remaining skins pressed. Total skin contact time was 20 days for wine made from Stonetree
vineyard fruit and 18 days for Coyote Canyon vineyard fruit.
Barrel Aging: The wine was put into a mix of French and Hungarian oak barrels. No new barrels were
utilized; all barrels would be considered neutral. The wine was bottled on August 7, 2013.
A total of 25 barrels of Primitivo were produced. Of these, 16 were selected for this cuvee.
